The future of innovation, education can be found in 'Did You Know 2.0'

I recently stumbled across an amazing video on YouTube entitled "Did You Know 2.0." Produced by graphic illustration firm XPLANE, it tackles the increasing rate of technology change in the world, and the implications this has on education. Several highlights:

Fact: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 1 out 4 workers have worked for their current employer for less than 1 year, and 1 out of 2 workers for less than 5 years.

Innovation challenge: How do we get all of these new employees engaged in the organization's innovation efforts? How can their outside perspectives bring fresh thinking to our firm and its future direction?

Fact: Technology and information is changing and expanding at an exponential rate. The video says "We are currently preparing students for jobs and technologies that don't yet exist... in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet."

Innovation challenge: If we can't predict what future technologies and changes will rock our world in the next decade, then it makes sense to train students on how to be creative problem solvers, collaborators and life-long learners.

Fact: Schools need to provide resources and training that will help today's children to become literate in the 21st century.

Innovation challenge: This implies some big changes that will need to be driven at multiple levels, from the federal government (which sets education policy) to school boards and principals (who decide what resources will be available and what will be taught to our children).

This 8-minute video is quite thought provoking, and I strongly recommend that you view it!
