One source of stimulus for creative ideas is to look at broad trends, and the meanings behind them. Joyce Wycoff, this week's issue of her popular Heads Up! on Organizational Innovation e-newsletter, explains how to create a "trend wall" -- a common area where you and your team members can use index cards or butcher paper to post trends they've noticed, as well as add comments and ideas to trends that others have already placed on the trend wall.
"Seed the wall with some trends that you've identified and then encourage other people to add their own thoughts about trends. By facilitating a series of discussions around selected trends, you can discover the meanings of the trends identified. This simple
process will help everyone be more aware of trends and begin to stimulate new thinking," she explains.
If you haven't already subscribed to the e-mail list for the InnovationNetwork's free Heads Up! e-newsletter, here is a link where you can do so. I highly recommend it! |
