Mike Docherty has posted the third segment of a six-part series on open innovation on his Innovation.Net weblog. The topic of this segment is: Strategy #2: Know the sources of new ideas for your market.
"If you've done a good job of identifying innovation growth paths, you'll be led to some obvious technology trends and sources of ideas for your market. Less obvious, but just as important, will be identifying where to look for the 'non-tradtional' sources of ideas for your products and categories."
These include:
- Leveraging non-traditional approaches to identify unmet needs,
- Creating a network of resources to find enabling technologies and solutions, and
- Exploiting the intersections of needs, technologies and market opportunities (note: this "intersection" concept is also the theme of Frans Johansson's new book, The Medici Effect)
Mike and co-author Luda Kopeikina provide examples of each of these strategies in action, as well as advice on how to apply each one to your business. |
