During the last year or so, I've been disappointed by the dearth of true ideation tools for the popular iPhone mobile platform. Roger von Oech was a pioneer in porting his Creativity Whack Pack over to the small screen (awesome app, BTW!) and there have been a few others, notably IdeaGen and BrainStormer. But I've been hoping for so much more...
The idea of a go-anywhere tool that you can use to catalyze ideas on demand is a compelling one, at least to my way of thinking. I know there's more potential than what we've seen so far.
Imagine my surprise, then, when a search in the AppStore last night turned up a terrific new brainstorming tool called Idea Stimulator, which offers over 100 different creative thinking exercises to help you to tap your creative muse.
The app is simple and easy to use. Just hit the trigger button and the app spins a roller and selects an idea trigger at random. You can also spin the roller with your fingertip and explore them yourself. Each exercise, when clicked, takes you to a page that provides more details on how to use it. In addition, the app contains a small library of articles to help you to become more creative.
The Idea Stimulator is available in Apple's AppStore; it is the brainchild of Nigel Collin, a creativity coach. Great job, Nigel! |
