From time to time, I highlight collaboration tools that appear to do a good job of enabling small work groups to share ideas and manage knowledge effectively. Lately, I've been impressed with Traction Software, which was the first such tool to adopt the simple, personal interface of a Weblog to a shared repository of information and knowledge.
I've just discovered another new player in this blog-centric workgroup collaboration space: A product called Basecamp from 37signals LLC. This new Web-based collaboration space utilizes a familiar blog-like interface for entering new posts, adding comments to existing ones and navigating through the group's shared repository of information, but it adds valuable project management tools, such as to-do lists, milestones, links to files and more. Although the Basecamp Web site doesn't come right out and say this, it looks like a great tool for capturing and sharing ideas, to which other team members can add their comments. This isn't an idea management tool by any means. But as a project management and knowledge capture tool for small work groups, it looks very well designed and easy to use. |
