New in Joyce Wycoff's Heads Up! on Organizational Innovation Weblog is an article authored by Andrew Papageorge on Building a System of Innovation. He contends that many business leaders say innovation is important to them, but surprisingly few organizations have a systematic approach to innovation. He suggests that we view our organizations as living systems, organisms that must be nurtured and grown -- rather than machines that need to be controlled or repaired:
"Creating an innovation system requires organizations to change the way they think about creativity and innovation -- not only do they want to stimulate people to accept innovation but they also need to create an environment where everyone participates in it."
